iPhone 3G announced for July 11th availability, but lots of questions remain

The iPhone 3G site is now live on Apple.com and the tech specs indicate it has the same 2 megapixel camera without flash and basically the same hardware features as the current model, with exception of GPS, 3G data (quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA) and a slimmer form factor.

Apple Introduces 3G IPhone

SAN FRANCISCO -(Dow Jones)- Apple Inc. (AAPL) on Monday introduced its long- awaited 3G iPhone for USD$199, which will be available starting July 11 along with its iPhone software store, in a move demonstrating how central Apple's iPhone is to the computer maker's future.

Australian iPhone release info revealed!

Apple Australia have today announced internally the details of the Australian iPhone release. The phone will be released in the last week of June to coincide with the opening of the Sydney Apple Store. The phone will also be unlocked for use with more than 1 carrier, providing evidence it may be a 3G iPhone we first see here.

Apple's iPhone price cuts leave mixed feelings

Gadget enthusiasts who snapped up Apple Inc.'s ballyhooed iPhone before Wednesday are coping with a bitter aftertaste now that it is $200 cheaper within 10 weeks of its introduction.

The price cut, from $599 to $399 for the 8-gigabyte iPhone, immediately set off a debate on online tech forums between early adopters who said paying a premium price came with the territory and those who said they felt burned. The price reduction was too much too soon, some complained.

Software to Lock iPhone For Sale

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- A group of anonymous software developers said they will soon start selling a program that will allow iPhone owners to use the hugely popular device on cell phone systems around the world and not just with AT&T.

Apple's iPhone is yet to go on sale outside the U.S.

art.iphone.afp.gi.jpgApple's iPhone, released in the United States two months ago, was engineered to operate for the first two years only on the AT&T system through an exclusive arrangement between Apple and AT&T. It has not yet been sold outside of the U.S.

Los Angeles software consultant Brett Schulte, who is not affiliated with the developers, demonstrated the software for CNN Friday evening.

An iPhone that had the new software appeared to work on the T-Mobile system just seconds after Schulte replaced the AT&T SIM card with a T-Mobile SIM card.
