The site has a right to make some money to cover the server costs but I don't think I have ever clicked on an ad anywhere on any forum that I have ever been on in years.
I used to run several forums myself and going by that past experience, it was very hard to make money on ads like these. The only time I did make money was when it was of a more adult nature, people are tempted so easily then.
